Barbara Lecoq: quadro/picture - Oriente e occidente ORIENTE e OCCIDENTE - Ogni quadro è una storia; una storia creata al momento… Each of my paintings is an impromptu story, born of the whim of the moment…I start my story with its setting, applying colour to the wooden panel... If it’s reds and yellows, my journey begins in Africa, where life commences and the air and earth are on fire. If I choose to use cold colours like blues or greens, I set my story in the mystery of night or water. It’s only once I’ve applied colour to the entire panel that I start to make up my story and split the painting into soil and sky or air and water… Then the painting and its protagonists gradually take life, and the story they tell is new and original to me as to others: reason and reality have been set aside and only my dreams and feelings have blossomed into colour and shapes. The protagonists are houses with rounded, almost Byzantine roofs (never straight); and nature, the moon and sun that stand for dreams and friendship and love and the beauty that’s all around us.
